Summer in San Diego is marked by a few notable occasions, not the least of which is when our attention turns to the Del Mar area for both the Del Mar (or, San Diego County) Fair and for the Del Mar Horse Races. The San Diego County Fair just wrapped up and now the focus of much of the sports world turns to the world famous Del Mar Racetrack.
On July 18th, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carmel Valley and all of those commuting up and down Interstate 5 open the doors to the flood of visitors who make the annual trip to our area to take part in the tradition of the races. And what’s not to like? Sun, surf, sports, horses, money and some of the finest hats you’ve ever seen. Certainly it puts a little more strain on our streets, hotels, restaurants and so forth, but you can’t really help but get excited about the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the Del Mar Races.
And it’s not just about the betting and the races. The Del Mar Racetrack has done well to offer entertainment for all types throughout the seven week season. For example, the 2007 Del Mar Summer Concert Series features great acts like Unwritten Law, Violent Femmes, Ziggy Marley, and the local favorite - Super Diamond. This is also known as Four O’clock Fridays because the usual post time of 2 PM is delayed to 4 PM on Fridays to help kick off the weekend and lead into the concert. You can find the full schedule at http://www.dmtc.com/season/.
If you’re visiting our fine city for the races… welcome. You’ve landed yourself in one of the finest places on the planet. And considering the prices of some of the home rentals in the Del Mar and Carmel Calley areas, you’re probably thinking you cound nearly BUY a home for what a two month home rental costs… and you might be right in some cases. If you need help navigating the home market here, don’t hesitate to ask for some help - Contact Us.
For those of us who already live here, don’t forget to take advantage of that fact. We’re among the lucky few that can call this world-famous resort destination “home”. Take an afternoon to enjoy what we have and take in a race, or a concert, or an opening day hat contest!
